How To Clean a Bathroom Meticulously and Protect Your Investment

how to clean a bathroom

If you’ve recently renovated a bathroom room or are just looking for ways to keep it sharp and clean at all times, we’ve got the tips you need! We’ll teach you how to clean a bathroom and protect your investment for years to come.

Clean Like a Professional

The first step is to put your professional cleaner hat on. If you think like a bathroom cleaning pro, you’ll be a pro yourself in no time. Here are top tips for the basic areas of your bathroom:

  • Remove all items from sinks, tubs, showers, shelves, etc. and do a general pick-up so the bathroom is easier to clean.
  • Sweep and dust all areas.
  • Use a good glass cleaner for mirrors and shower doors.
  • Use an all-purpose cleaner for sinks, faucets, counters, shelves, towel racks, baseboards, blinds, doors and window sills. (Hint: if you take the time to dust these areas first, they’ll be easier to clean).
  • That same all-purpose cleaner or warm water is all you need to tackle the floor.

Cleaning the Toilet

If you clean your toilet regularly, then you should have no problem keeping it clean. Again a good all-purpose bathroom cleaner can tackle the job. If you tend to neglect the toilet and a nasty ring appears, you can clean the toilet bowl, seat and other areas including the base with items right in your home.

Put some white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray white vinegar inside the toilet bowel and on the seat, handle, and lid. Let it set for several minutes. Next add baking soda inside the toilet bowl and scrub with your toilet brush. Finally, use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the vinegar solution off the seat, handle, and lid.

Tackling the Tub, Shower and Grout

Renovating a bathroom doesn’t have to be a chore, but once it’s done, you do want to keep it in pristine condition. Buy a good size spray bottle and mix a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water. Clearly mark it as “Shower Spray.” When exiting the shower or tub, spray the tub, shower walls, shower doors, and grout at least two to three times a week. This will keep these areas sparkling and lessen your chore if these areas get really grimy! Be sure to talk to your children about the bottle and that it’s not for play and only adults should use it. Keep the bottle up high where kids can’t reach it.

If you’ve skipped the above step and you really need to clean your bathroom meticulously, there are a few ways to really tackle the tub, shower, shower doors, and grout.

The pros know that heat works well when it comes to cleaning the tub, shower and grout. Before you begin, run hot water inside your shower/tub area for several minutes.

You’ll need the following items:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Scrub brush or a toothbrush
  • Bowl
  • Hydrogen peroxide – for nasty grout clean-up

Mix a solution of 1:1 of vinegar and water and spray all areas. Let it sit for several minutes before you begin to scrub. Scrub from the top down and then rinse with warm water. Next, take your bowl and form a paste with baking soda and water. Use your grout brush or toothbrush and work the paste into the grout. Once you’ve scrubbed an area really well, spray the vinegar and water solution and scrub again. Rinse the areas well with warm water.

If your grout is really stained, you can use hydrogen peroxide. This works well on stains, mildew, and mold. Use this instead of the vinegar solution and spray it on the tub, shower, walls and shower door. Let it sit and use your scrub brush to clean the areas. You may have to repeat this step. If hydrogen peroxide doesn’t do the job alone, mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide together, apply to grout and let sit. Scrub and rinse well.

You can clean your bathroom like a professional and keep it looking great year, after year!
